Almost half of the population of the world lives in rural regions and mostly in a state of poverty. Such inequalities in human development have been one of the primary reasons for unrest and, in some parts of the world, even violence. -A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
Living in a rural setting exposes you to so many marvelous things – the natural world and the particular texture of small-town life, and the exhilarating experience of open space. Susan Orlean
“Those shining stars, he liked to point out, were one of the special treats for people like us who lived out in the wilderness. Rich city folks, he’d say, lived in fancy apartments, but their air was so polluted they couldn’t even see the stars. We’d have to be out of our minds to want to trade places with any of them.” ― Jeannette Walls, The Glass Castle
The night
Eerily serene.
full of insects’ orchestra
and
animals’ conference noise;
lullabies us to sleep.
The penumbra night,
Black like full eclipse
Blankets the village,
As we sleep on.
Making us ignorant
Of the city noises,
We are used to.
The hustle and bustle
Of rats on the rat race ;
And decapitated beings
In a movement without motion.
We sleep on,
Thankful for the brief
respite at ADEYIPO.
