“Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children’s children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance.”
― Theodore Roosevelt
leave our environment for us
we are not complaining.
the streets may be unplanned,
our roads may be constant rivers;
while our houses are unplanned
let us be.
know ye not our environment
is work in progress?
when we fill our wetlands
and push our waters far from the shores.
is that the concern of anybody?
when we decimate our forests
does that become somebody’s business?
is our environment not work in progress?
when our cities are pigsty replicas
should that concern do-gooders?
are we not the one living inside them?
are we complaining?
when slums compete for prominence
is it anybody’s problem?
the desert may be knocking at our doors
our industries may pollute our skies
is that a problem?
the moment jobs are available
know ye not,
our environment is work in progress.
