“Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.”
― Abraham Lincoln
“In a democracy, someone who fails to get elected to office can always console himself with the thought that there was something not quite fair about it.”
― Thucydides, History of the Peloponnesian War
“In a society governed passively by free markets and free elections, organized greed always defeats disorganized democracy.”
― Matt Taibbi, Griftopia: Bubble Machines, Vampire Squids, and the Long Con That Is Breaking America
elections aren’t one off
they are continuous over time.
you don’t expect us to get it perfect
tell me the nation that has done so
our elections are work in progress
ballot boxes are stuffed?
that’s not new.
we are just replicating
our polluticians or is it politicians
the way they stuff themselves
of our resources.
our votes may not count
who count them anyway?
is that not a sign of –
work in progress?
we may use thugs as guards
is that new?
we‘ve always use intimidation
so we are behaving true to type
why chide us
that we can’t organise elections?
are we expected to get it right every time?
don’t you know?
our politics is winner take all?
and who recognises losers?
our elections are ‘do- or- die’ affair
isn’t our elections work in progress?
